Il suffit d\u2019oublier\u00a0<span class=\"style\">des fruits\u00a0<\/span>dans l\u2019eau pour que le vinaigre existe. On sait que\u00a0<span class=\"style\">les Egyptiens<\/span>\u00a0produisaient du vin : ils d\u00e9couvrirent donc forc\u00e9ment le vinaigre. Quatre cents ans avant J.-C.,\u00a0<span class=\"style\">Hippocrate,<\/span>\u00a0le p\u00e8re de la m\u00e9decine, conseillait un m\u00e9lange d\u2019eau,\u00a0<span class=\"style\">de vinaigre et de miel\u00a0<\/span>(l\u2019oxymel) pour gu\u00e9rir de nombreux maux. Le vinaigre d\u2019alcool \u00e9tait recommand\u00e9 en cas de grave maladie de la t\u00eate. Il cite \u00e9galement\u00a0<span class=\"style\">un m\u00e9decin<\/span>\u00a0ant\u00e9rieur \u00e0 lui, qui avait recours au vinaigre dans la pr\u00e9paration de sa \u00ab\u00a0ptisane\u00bb (d\u00e9coction d\u2019orge pil\u00e9e)\u00a0: terme grec qui a donn\u00e9 par la suite le mot \u00ab\u00a0tisane\u00a0\u00bb. Quarante ans avant J.-C., la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre\u00a0<span class=\"style\">Cl\u00e9op\u00e2tre<\/span>\u00a0reste dans les annales, immortalis\u00e9e dans\u00a0<span class=\"style\">une huile sur toile,<\/span>\u00a0\u00e0 propos du vinaigre. Elle gagna un pari avec\u00a0<span class=\"style\">Marc Antoine<\/span>\u00a0au cours d\u2019un c\u00e9l\u00e8bre souper o\u00f9 elle but un vase remplit de vinaigre.\u00a0<span class=\"style\">La posca,<\/span>\u00a0boisson faite de vinaigre, d\u2019eau et parfois de jaune d\u2019oeuf (ou d\u2019autres ingr\u00e9dients) \u00e9tait servie \u2013depuis plusieurs si\u00e8cles-\u00a0<span class=\"style\">aux l\u00e9gionnaires romains\u00a0<\/span>pour apaiser leur soif. Cette boisson\u00a0<span class=\"style\">antiseptique<\/span>\u00a0soulageait \u00e9galement\u00a0<span class=\"style\">la souffrance<\/span>\u00a0de certains supplici\u00e9s.
